One of the largest outdoor murals anywhere in Canada was unveiled on November 9, 2012, at Toronto’s Allen Gardens, in celebration of First Nations communities. Titled ‘All My Relations,’ the mural has been designed to beautify a temporary wooden fence that surrounds the main construction site for the Gerrard Watermain Replacement Project in the Gardens. Covering more than 90 m2 (969 sf) of the boarding, the visual representation of First Nations life and culture in Toronto will be in place for three and a half years, until the construction project is completed. “This mural adds a layer of beauty to the park for the community to enjoy while the construction work takes place,” says Kristyn Wong-Tam, city councillor for Ward 27, Toronto Centre Rosedale. More than 20 artists from First Nations communities came together to design and paint the mural, led by nationally recognized, award-winning artists Tannis Nielsen and Philip Cote.
