In the lobby of Montreal’s Mega Plex Marché Central 18, operated by Les Cinémas Guzzo, two video walls have been built using MicroTiles from Christie in Kitchener, Ont.
One of the displays is an archway configuration—six tiles high and 11 tiles wide—to draw audiences into the location’s IMAX theatre. The second, located just past the first, is a 3 x 6-tile array that serves as a giant movie poster, with trailers playing within it. The concept and content were developed by Montreal-based Arsenal Media.
“Arsenal produced some very complex and interesting content that runs on the MicroTiles,” says Vincenzo Guzzo, executive vice-president (EVP) of Quebec’s largest privately owned cinema chain. “Everyone loves it, particularly the younger crowd, which says it’s really cool. The MicroTiles make a lot of people just stop and take a minute to look at the whole display. And once they walk through the arch, they stop and stare again at the ‘poster.’”
“Guzzo wanted an archway because they want moviegoers to feel like they are walking into an experience,” says J.P. Berardini, branch manager for Genesis Integration, which installed and calibrated the displays, along with consulting on construction and electrical work. “The three-dimensional (3-D) experience with both the archway and the interior array works because of the MicroTiles.”
