TTC tests colour-coded subway number signage

As part of its commitment to improve wayfinding, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) is testing new signage at its central interchange station, which applies numbers and colours to each subway line.

By adding numbers and colours to the subway lines’ names at Bloor-Yonge Station, the goal is to make signs easier for first-time and occasional passengers to understand, particularly those whose first language is not English. The signs are also expected to be installed at St. George Station, another major interchange facility, in the coming weeks.

Staff will survey customers for feedback and any necessary refinements to the sign designs will be made before a system-wide rollout in 2015. All design and production work is being handled in-house, with printing costs absorbed within existing budgets.
