Montreal-based digital signage software developer X2O Media recently partnered with Park Nicollet Clinic in Champlin, Minn., to implement a comprehensive digital signage network to facilitate interaction with patients and staff.

The network includes a mix of both ‘passive’ screens and interactive touch screens to provide video content, wayfinding information, real-time social media updates, news and weather conditions and forecasts.

The project’s overall goal is to augment the clinic experience for both patients and visitors. A touch screen in the lobby, for example, offers a staff directory, while other displays feature Quick Response (QR) codes that allow visitors to download maps directly onto their mobile devices. Patients can bring up on-demand health videos and e-documentation. There are even entertaining videos specifically intended for children.

“With our new digital signage network, patients can now access materials directly from their rooms and visitors can retrieve information on staff and find their way throughout our facility,” says Sue Coller, the clinic’s office supervisor.

X2O’s visual communications content management software platform has been integrated with Cisco IEC-4632 media players to ensure interoperability, making it easy for staff to create, manage and send rich-media content to specific screens. The clinic’s employees use drag-and-drop tools to incorporate high-definition (HD) video, still images, animation, PowerPoint slides and data-based graphics. Meanwhile, the system also collects content from Facebook, Reuters and local news sources.

“We’ve designed the platform to be simple and versatile, with the ability to display a wide variety of content, including social media and user-generated content,” says David Wilkins, president and CEO of X2O. “By combining these features with easy-to-use tools, facility-wide digital signage deployments such as Park Nicollet’s enhance the user experience.”
