Cober open house showcases evolving solutions

HP_Indigo_10000Cober Evolving Solutions, a print-service provider (PSP) in Kitchener, Ont., held an open house on April 24 to showcase the first HP Indigo 10000 digital press installed in Canada, among other expanded in-house capabilities and new departments.

The company ordered the press (pictured, above) in 2013 to add poster-size output for highly customized marketing materials and to shorten lead times.

“This press will let us take on projects we would not have otherwise been able to do,” says president Peter Cober (pictured, left), whose grandfather Vernon L. Cober started the business in 1916. “It’s a game-changer in terms of time to market.”DSC_7783

The company’s existing wide-format department, established over the past few years, operates HP Scitex LX850 and FP700 printers with an Esko Kongsberg i-XP 24 digital cutting table.

“We used to outsource wide-format graphics,” says Cober. “Now we do lots of banners and real estate signs in-house.”

The company has also expanded its sign printing capabilities further by acquiring Kempenfelt Group and Kempenfelt Wideformat in Barrie, Ont., which use vinyl cutters and an Agfa Titan printer, among other equipment.

“That’s gotten us into screenprinting and display fabrication,” Cober says. “It’s been a good alignment of cultures, as they were a family business too.”
