A new report conducted for the International Sign Association (ISA) by market research and analysis firms IHS and Vandiver and Associates anticipates growth in 2014 and 2015 for large-format printers, digital signage, wayfinding systems and electric signs.
Sponsored by the National Association of Sign Supply Distributors (NASSD), ISA’s initial sign industry ‘market monitor,’ representing a quarterly index, has assessed key drivers in the market and their effects on sign supplies and manufacturing. The report’s findings include the following conclusions:
- As the manufacturing sector bounces back, sales of large-format printers will enjoy stronger-than-average growth of four per cent in 2014 and five per cent in 2015.
- Digital signage will grow in terms of both hardware and software revenue. Sales of display mounts, for example, are forecast to average 2.9 per cent annual growth through 2017, while revenue for cabling and other miscellaneous hardware is expected to increase by a yearly average of 2.4 per cent during the same period. Installation and project management revenue will see 2.4 and two per cent annual growth, respectively.
- Growth in electric signage will largely come from increases in out-of-home (OOH) advertising of 18 per cent in 2014 and 15 per cent in 2015.
- Wayfinding signage growth will be driven by new construction of streets and highways, yielding an increase of three per cent in 2014 before flattening in 2015.
The report is the first in a planned series that will track the current and future strength of the on-premise sign industry, with detailed analysis by market segment.
“As we continue to provide these numbers,” explains Lori Anderson, ISA president and CEO, “we expect to provide data those in the industry—particularly in the supplier, distributor and manufacturer sectors—can use to anticipate orders and expansion opportunities and better manage their business.”
