Second annual Sign Manufacturing Day showcases career opportunities

Manufacturing Day Ramsay SignsThe International Sign Association’s (ISA’s) second annual Sign Manufacturing Day drew hundreds of students from elementary, middle and high schools and community and technical colleges to sign shops on October 3.

By allowing students to see signs up close and in production, the event is intended to build interest in sign-industry jobs. Some of this year’s participating companies were asked about internships, co-op placements and job-shadowing opportunities.

Once again, the only Canadian company to participate was Mattatall Signs in Dartmouth, N.S., where employees offered engraved acrylic souvenirs to local design students who had provided digital files of their own artwork. All of the other participating sign shops were U.S.-based.

“In its second year, Sign Manufacturing Day was a rousing success,” says Lori Anderson, ISA’s president and CEO. “The next generation of workers is interested in the visual communications industry. We just have to continue to make them aware of the good, diverse jobs our industry offers.”
