For this month’s Contact Photography Festival in Toronto, a large-scale mural depicting a destroyed façade was printed and installed on a Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art (MOCCA) courtyard building destined for demolition.
The mural showcases the work of Korean artist Jihyun Jung, who sneaks into construction sites and photographs vacated apartments before they are razed to the ground. His 2013-2014 series, Demolition Site, draws from the personal experience of seeing his childhood home replaced with a high-rise building.
The outdoor mural is supported by Toronto-based Four By Eight Sign Services, which specializes in installing graphics on construction hoardings; Beyond Digital Imaging (BDI), a wide-format printing company in Markham, Ont.; and 3M Canada, which supplied its Envision film for the building wrap.
