Holman Exhibits founder loses battle with cancer

Peter Holman, who founded the Toronto-based design and fabrication firm Holman Exhibits 50 years ago, died peacefully on January 7 after losing a battle with cancer. He is remembered for his dedication to innovation, creativity and quality in exhibits and displays.
Originally established as Holman Design in 1964, Holman’s company formed longstanding relationships with many museums, galleries, visitor centres and other venues across Canada. Most recently, it produced award-winning graphics for the Toronto Zoo’s Giant Panda Experience (see Sign Media Canada, September 2013, page 16) and the interactive ‘David Bowie is’ exhibition at the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO).
“Peter’s enthusiasm and passion impacted all who had the privilege to work with him,” says Edgars Apse, marketing manager. “He worked tirelessly until each project was a success.”
“It is very difficult to part with a colleague and friend who believed so strongly not just in the work, but in the people of his company,” says Dirk Trefzger, chief operating officer (COO). “His influence will always be felt throughout our offices.”
“Peter set the stage for what today is the Holman family,” says Wendy Cudney, chief financial officer (CFO). “He will be missed for his contagious spirit, dedication and care.”
