Advanced, an audiovisual (AV) technology integrator based in Mississauga, Ont., has installed interactive product kiosks for Microsoft at eight Best Buy electronics stores across Canada, enabling motion-activated ads, tutorials and demonstrations.
Each location features three kiosks with proximity sensors that active ads and customize demos based on the numbers of participants and their dwell time. The Microsoft Office and Xbox kiosks are equipped with 1.4-m (55-in.) liquid crystal displays (LCDs), while a six-screen video wall focuses on features of the Windows operating system (OS).
“We built a demo kiosk at our facility and worked with a retail designer to fine-tune the sensors’ reaction time and multi-user protocols to maximize their effectiveness,” explains Mark McPherson, Advanced’s executive vice-president (EVP). “For tech products, these types of sales environments allow customers to try before they buy and are much more memorable and meaningful than simple ads.”
