  • Digital signage software developer Capital Networks, based in Markham, Ont., won a product-of-the-year award from Signage Solutions magazine for the ‘Audience for Android’ media player (pictured), which was introduced in 2012.
  • The International Sign Association’s (ISA’s) International Sign Academy announced the recipients of its Quality Training Accomplishment Awards, which are based on commitment to continuing education. Among the Canadian winners, silver awards went to TR Trades Reproduction in Vancouver and Zip Signs in Burlington, Ont.; and bronze awards went to Speedpro Canada in Winnipeg and Meena Hotel in Carleton Place, Ont.
  • The Toronto-based Brothers Markle announced PlanSign, which they distribute in Canada on behalf of Dan Sign Systems, has become the world’s first Cradle to Cradle certified sign system. Similar to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), Cradle to Cradle evaluates the environmental impact of a product and its manufacture.
  • Reliant Labs, which provides highly accelerated life testing (HALT) in Sunnyvale, Calif., subjected SloanLED’s 12-V MODW direct current (DC) power supplies to thermal shock tests—cycling from 70 C (158 F) to -28 C (-22 F) and back—and found they outperformed their top industry competitor by 64 per cent. All of the MODW units tested showed no signs of solder cracks after 75 cycles, the equivalent of 5.7 years, and 90 per cent of them showed none after 100 cycles or 7.6 years.
