Located in the heart of Halifax, N.S., Brewery Park is the city’s first boutique hotel. Passersby or guests may first notice the building due to its unique sign. The sleek black and white design blends a modern feel with the warmth of the historic features of the building and surrounding neighbourhood.

The sign was created by Eye Candy Signs, with the help of local developer Kerry Lynch, who assisted in facilitating the project. Visibility was a key factor, according to Jenna Lawrence, director of sales and business development at Eye Candy Signs.

The double-sided projecting sign runs up and down the front of the building, typical of a traditional streetscape design, which is meant to draw attention in areas where there is a lot of foot traffic.

“One of the most important aspects of opening a business is visibility so people know you’re there,” said Lawrence.

The sign is made of an oversized, black aluminum composite panel with contour cut vinyl graphics applied to the matte side with white text, and is centred on the building above the main doors. A second sign beside the main doors is 38-mm (1.5-in.) thick square stock aluminum framework painted black with a matte finish. The carved trees are infilled with a white, matte finish, and the building and “Brewery Park” are cut from 13-mm (0.5-in.) thick acrylic and set into carved 3.2-mm (0.125-in.) deep pockets in high-density urethane (HDU) acrylic with a painted white, matte finish. “Boutique Suites” is painted on a HDU backer in a white, matte finish. The signs were installed in July 2020.

Located in the north end of Halifax, Eye Candy Signs was established in 1997 and specializes in a wide range of products, including wayfinding and architectural signage, sandblasted signs, sculptural signs, dimensional signs, carved signs, illuminated signs, and awnings, to name a few.
