MTO approves Callander highway signage request

Callander’s request for new highway signage has been approved by the Ministry of Transportation (MTO). New entrance signs will be installed at all municipal boundary points as well.

According to a report in thestar.com, the ministry approved the new signs, including the Callander logo, for installation at all provincial highway entrance points and the Nosbonsing Road boundary with East Ferris.

Callander is working with the MTO, who will be covering the cost of manufacturing and installing signs, to find a new location for the welcome sign on Highway 11 North, before the Lake Nosbonsing/Highway 654 turn-off.

Municipal staff has been working with TWG Communications to finalize the design of the entrance sign at Cranberry Drive, to replace the existing sign. Installation of the new sign will take place in late spring or early summer.

Callander distributed $40,000 in their 2022 budget for improving the signage, the amount included a $5000 grant from Frank Cowan Insurance.

The total costs of the new sign are at Cranberry drive are anticipated to be $37,149.33 including tax, design fees for TWG, shipping, and installation. As well, a solar lighting system will be installed, which is estimated to cost $2500.

The sign for Cranberry Drive will be completed in the summer of 2022, according to staff and in the news report.
