BMS Printing, which opened earlier this year in Brampton, Ont., has installed an Océ Arizona 480 GT ultraviolet-curing (UV-curing) flatbed press as its first in-house production printer. (Océ says it is also the first 480 GT to be installed anywhere in Eastern Canada.)
The newly established print service provider (PSP) is part of BMS Enterprises, which runs Ontario’s Aren’t We Naughty chain of adult novelty stores. Having already printed materials relating to the retail brand in-house, president Steve Bannister decided to extend this service to other retailers and the trade. Print media specialist Craig Rogers is his partner in the new stand-alone business venture.
With the 480 GT, BMS is specializing in flatbed-based, direct-to-substrate printing of wall murals, trade show graphics and a variety of indoor and outdoor signs. The inkjet printer uses Océ’s VariaDot imaging technology, with 636 piezoelectric nozzles per colour. It can reportedly output up to 32.8 m2 (353 sf) in express mode and up to 24.5 m2 (263.7 sf) in production mode.
