The Penticton Art Gallery is searching for local artists to participate in their Square Mini Mural Project, a public art exhibition to kick off the city’s annual Ignite the Arts Festival.

The gallery and its partner, Cannery Brewing, are asking interested parties to submit their proposals for 1.2- x 1.2-m (4- x 4-ft) mini murals. This year, eight to 10 artists will be selected to be a part of the project. They will receive a mural substrate, as well as a $500 honorarium to create their artwork.

With their submissions, artists are asked to include five to 10 images which are representative of their work, a bio and artist statement, and their contact information.

The deadline for submissions is Jan. 28. If artists are selected for the project, they will be notified by Feb. 13. The final murals will be framed and installed at Cannery Brewing, where they will be unveiled to the public on Mar. 24. They will be on display until they are auctioned off on Oct. 18.

Each artist will receive 50 per cent of the proceeds once the works are sold. The remaining proceeds will support the Penticton Art Gallery and their community outreach.
