Toronto deputy mayor Jennifer McKelvie has sent a proposal to the City Council that seeks to rename the route from the Rogers Centre to Nathan Phillips Square in honour of Taylor Swift for the duration of the singer’s Eras Tour later this year.

The proposal from McKelvie, who is the councillor for Scarborough-Rouge Park, calls for the route to be called “Taylor Swift Way” for all of November.

McKelvie’s office told the Toronto Star they are “hopeful” they can finance the signs through “a small reallocation or surplus within the existing economic development budget.”

The deputy mayor also wants to designate the concert venue as “1 Taylor Swift Way” and for the landmark CN Tower to blare red (the title of one of Swift’s albums) on the six days she will be performing in the city.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) that included several references to Swift’s songs, McKelvie said the proposal is “our way to show Taylor she’s ‘the 1’ we’ve been waiting for, that she has brought us much ‘happiness’ and that we will love her ‘evermore’”.

“We are also planning on donating the signs to the Daily Bread Food Bank after the tour leaves so they can be auctioned off in support of their organization,” her office told the newspaper.
