As the school year begins, Sault Ste. Marie has installed new signage and traffic-calming bollards at five locations across the city in response to community concerns about speeding.

The targeted areas include:

Queen Street East – Boundary Road to Millwood Drive

MacDonald Avenue – Pine Street to Lake Street

Black Road – Sinclair Yards entrance to Third Line East

Fourth Line West – Arson Drive to Peoples Road

Baseline – west and east of Carpin Beach Road

Signs and traffic-calming measures are essential in school zones to protect students from speeding vehicles. As children return to classrooms, these safety features remind drivers to slow down, creating a safer environment for pedestrians and cyclists. School zones are high-risk areas due to increased foot traffic, and clear signage, along with physical barriers like bollards, ensures drivers are aware of the need for caution. By addressing speeding concerns, Sault Ste. Marie is proactively working to prevent accidents and enhance overall community safety.

“Bollards are temporary but effective measures to reduce speeding and encourage safer driving,” the City of Sault Ste. Marie said via Facebook, reminding drivers to stay cautious as students return to school.
