Optima Imaging in Gatineau, Que., has installed Scitex LX850 (pictured, left) and FB700 (right) industrial printers from HP Canada to bring durable aqueous ‘latex’ inks to its large-format graphic customers.

Founded 27 years ago, Optima was one of the first companies in Gatineau to shift its focus specifically to large-format digital printing. Today, it serves customers across a broad range of sectors, from the National Bank of Canada and Swimming Canada to museums and the local hot-air balloon festival. Its output includes posters, signage and window coverings.

“We decided to install the Scitex printers to bring innovative solutions to our clients,” says Marc-Étienne Chartrand, manager. “We were pioneers of large-format printing and we want to continue to lead the way, this time with the environmental benefits of latex inks. Our customers are responding well to our use of these inks, while we also enjoy the benefits of high-quality output and durable machines.”

The inks, which contain no hazardous air pollutants (HAPs), have also allowed Optima to serve new customers.

“Now we attract yoga studios, kindergartens and other environmentally aware institutions, as they prefer the indoor benefits of latex inks,” says Chartrand. “We can also take on more jobs, as the new presses allow us to produce output more efficiently and easily.”
