The International Sign Association (ISA) has presented its 2013 Kirk L. Brimley Distinguished Service Award to past-chair John Allen, honouring his contributions to the on-premise sign industry.

The award was presented during ISA’s International Sign Expo earlier this month in Las Vegas, Nev. Allen (pictured, left) thanked his family, his peers and, in particular, employees of his company, Allen Industries.

“When you serve as chair of ISA, sometimes you have to step away from your company,” he said. “Your business has to go on. They picked up the pieces and never skipped a beat.”

Having served for many years on its committees, Allen chaired ISA in 2011. During his tenure, the trade organization began a major process of reorganization to better align its activities at national and local levels.

“John’s steady focus led ISA through many difficult conversations during this process,” says Harrie Niese, current chair (pictured, right). “He kept everyone involved focused on the goal of providing excellent service to all of our members and to the industry at large.”
