In April, the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC) will honour Charles Yang with the 2012 Olsen Medal for outstanding achievements in the field of textile chemistry.

Yang began his research in textile chemistry as a graduate student at Kansas State University and continued with chemical and instrumental analysis of fabrics and fibres at Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va. He then joined the University of Georgia, extending his studies to include textile functional finishing.

Today, Yang is known as an expert in flame-retardant finishing of cotton and blends, non-formaldehyde durable-press finishing of cotton using multi-functional carboxlic acids and analysis of chemically modified textile fibres. He holds seven patents and has been an AATCC member since 2002.

Yang will receive the medal on April 11 at AATCC’s annual international conference, which this year will take place at the Hyatt Regency in Greenville, S.C.
