X2O Media, a Montreal-based developer of software for digital signage and other media, has taken first place in the first-ever app development contest for Polycom, which specializes in unified communications and collaboration (UCC) systems.

The contest challenged individuals and companies to use open application programming interfaces (APIs) to find ways to enhance PolyCom’s RealPresence video-wall platform. X2O won the grand prize with an app that can deliver live and on-demand video content to digital signage screens, Internet Protocol (IP) phones and video kiosks.

The winners were chosen on the basis of five judging criteria—commercial applicability, user experience, productivity, third-party application integration and innovation—and announced during Polycom’s annual sales and partner conference in February in Vancouver.
