Montreal-based Astral Out-of-Home has announced the winning project in the English section of its annual Carte Blanche for Creatives contest, which encourages the design of out-of-home (OOH) ads without a brief or any restrictions.
Alice Blastorah and Neal Khosla—art director and copywriter, respectively, for the ad agency BBDO—won the grand prize with their ‘Youth Without Shelter’ campaign, which envisioned a transit shelter without walls or roofing (pictured) to draw attention to the plight of homeless young people. Their simple design included a bench and a print ad with the slogan, “At least you know your situation is temporary.”
The winning design will soon be turned into an actual Astral OOH campaign in Toronto.
“This contest is popular with the creative community because it offers them the opportunity to push the envelope with the art of display,” says Nathalie Doré, Astral’s vice-president (VP) of OOH marketing and media. “This year’s winning concept is a real logistical challenge for us that we are ready to address.”
Earlier, Astral announced lg2’s Geneviève Jannelle and Geneviève Langlois had won the French section of the contest with an ad they mocked up for Sears department stores.
The four winners were also given free trips to the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity in France.
