An inkjet-printed ski wrap by Klages Kreations, a custom embroidery, monogramming and design business, was the People’s Choice winner for December 2011 in Roland DGA’s international Creative Awards contest.
Carolyn Klages’ submission, which was selected from a field of more than 60 entries, comprised a collection of five pairs of skis, which were individually wrapped and then lined up to spell out her company’s logo. Produced using a 1-m (42-in.) wide inkjet printer/cutter and adhesive-backed vinyl, the graphics included metallic scrollwork and snowflake elements, providing a reflective appearance. They were laminated, precision-cut and applied to each ski in turn.
“Looking at all the ways artists are using Roland equipment really sparked our creativity,” says Klages, who won an Apple iPad2 and Roland headphones.
Along with other entrants, whose submissions were due by January 29, Klages is now competing for the grand prize, including a trip to Roland’s global headquarters in Hamamatsu, Japan, and a new machine of the winner’s choice.
