Canadian digital signage wins big at DSE 2014

The winners of the 2014 Digital Signage Expo (DSE) Apex and Content Awards were announced earlier this month, including many projects developed by Canadian companies and/or deployed in Canada.

The Apex Awards honour innovation in digital signage deployments. This year’s Canadian winners included the following:

  • Gold (professional and personal services)—Cineplex Digital Solutions, Waterloo, Ont., for the Scotiabank video wall (pictured) at Yorkdale Shopping Centre in Toronto.
  • Gold (arts, entertainment and recreation)—GestureTek Systems, Toronto, for the Art Alive! installation at the Crayola Experience in Easton, Pa.
  • Gold (business, industry and government)—Advanced, Mississauga, Ont., for the GE Digital Energy Centre video wall in Markham, Ont.
  • Silver (retail)—Gridcast Media, Richmond Hill, Ont., for the Holt Renfrew LED displays at Yorkdale Shopping Centre in Toronto.
  • Bronze (business, industry and government)—Arsenal Media, Montreal, and RP Visual Solutions for the Christie Digital Systems media wall in Cypress, Calif.
  • Bronze (event venues)—Westbury National, Toronto, for the Buffalo Sabres Hockey Club video and light system in Buffalo, N.Y.
  • Bronze (public spaces)—Arsenal Media, Montreal, for the Kazakhstan Telecom/A1 Productions media wall in Astana, Kazakhstan.

The Content Awards, meanwhile, focus specifically on innovation in digital signage content. The following were this year’s Canadian winners:

  • Gold (education and health care)—Go2 Productions, Vancouver, for projection mapping at Simon Fraser University (SFU) in Burnaby, B.C.
  • Silver (business, industry and government)—Arsenal Media, Montreal, for the Christie Digital Systems media wall in Cypress, Calif.
  • Bronze (arts, entertainment and recreation)—GestureTek Systems, Toronto, for the Art Alive! installation at the Crayola Experience in Easton, Pa.
  • Bronze (public spaces)—Go2 Productions, Vancouver, and Pearl Media for LoopNet projection mapping in Los Angeles, Calif.
