In an effort to deliver more uniform lighting in shallow cabinet signs, General Electric’s (GE’s) Lighting Solutions division introduced Tetra EdgeStrip and MiniStrip systems earlier this year as light-emitting diode-based (LED-based) replacements for T8 fluorescent tubes.
Reportedly delivering up to 90 per cent energy savings compared to T8 lamps, both systems use GE’s patented OptiLens technology to capture and redirect otherwise wasted light from each LED module toward the illuminated sign surface. The optical lenses prevent light striping and shadows that can otherwise occur with fluorescent tubes.
EdgeStrips are designed to fit into the frames of 76 to 152-mm (3 to 6-in.) deep cabinet signs to light them from the edges. MiniStrips can also be installed in 76 to 152-mm (3 to 6-in.) single-sided signs or 152 to 305-mm (6 to 12-in.) deep double-sided signs.
