Graphitek in Victoriaville, Que., has acquired a Scitex FB700 printer from HP Canada to help boost its production capacity and extend its client territory.

When Nathalie Castonguay and her mother Suzanne Hébert founded Graphitek 10 years ago, their first printer was also an HP machine. As the company has grown, it has specialized in large-format printing of kiosk graphics, but also produces vehicle graphics and other applications.

“We chose the FB700 because we do a lot of printing on rigid materials,” says Castonguay. “The 2.5-m (98-in.) width will let us print in large formats more easily, with less handling, and thereby improve our speed and performance. The print quality is still excellent. And printing with white ink and on glass will set us apart from our competition.”

Another factor in purchasing the new printer was reducing the use of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which cannot easily be recycled.

“In the past, to print graphics on corrugated plastic sheets, we had to first print on a thin film of vinyl, then affix it to the plastic,” Castonguay explains. “This step is eliminated with the new printer, which can print directly onto the sheet. This ecological aspect is important to us and an increasing concern for our customers.”
