Montreal-based app developer Underlabs has released Parky.ai, a new way to help drivers understand the various parking signs that line the city’s streets.

According to a report from CTV News, the idea for the app came forward after the company’s CEO received a parking ticket, which he said was a result of the confusing signs in the area.

“Sometimes you can have four or five signs on the same pole,” Andrei Chira, senior software engineer at Underlabs, said in the report. “We decided to create an app so simple that you would just take a picture of the parking signs, and it would tell you if you’re allowed or not to park, and the current time and hour.”

Additionally, every time a driver uploads a photo to Parky.ai, they will be helping to update its accuracy, so it can continue to help them understand even the city’s hardest street parking scenarios. Currently, Underlabs claims the app is 83 per cent accurate for single signs and 74 per cent accurate for multiple signs.
