The Municipality of Jasper, Alta., is set to improve visitor navigation through the installation of three new wayfinding signs. Awarded to Burke Group of Companies Ltd. on July 2, the 2024 Wayfinding Project comes at a cost of $36,802.99. This initiative follows the municipality’s adoption of Wayfinding and Signage Guidelines in 2016, with the first phase completed in 2021 through the installation of two entrance signs at the townsite.
Each sign, constructed from aluminum and featuring a concrete base clad in local river rock, will stand over 1.83 m (6 ft) tall. Scheduled for installation in the fall, outside of peak tourist season, the project is entirely funded by grants. Despite exceeding the approved budget by $6,802.99, the council decided to proceed with all three signs, which will primarily use pictograms to direct visitors to major community facilities. The initiative aims to enhance visitor experience and ensure efficient navigation throughout Jasper.
