Three illuminated signs intended to welcome visitors into Okotoks, Alta., have instead been leaving them in the dark.
According to a report from Okotoks Today, the colourful gateway signs—which were installed outside the town in 2021—were having difficulties lighting up at night over the last few months, despite their solar capabilities.
To help rectify the situation, community growth, investment, and sustainability director Jeff Greene said the town contacted the company who worked on the signage to come investigate the problem. Ultimately, it was determined their electrical systems were not powerful enough, which hindered the ability of their batteries to hold a charge over the colder winter months.
Per their contract, the company is required to fix the issue at their expense. The report states the repairs have been estimated to be completed in six weeks.
