Art moves from transit to mall screens

HardTwistOn January 14, 2013, digital out-of-home (DOOH) network operator Pattison OneStop debuted ‘Art in Transit,’ a curated arts program, on its screens in 42 shopping malls across Canada.

The program aims to present thought-provoking projects and capture the attention of busy consumers, even if only momentarily, during their daily routines. Its ‘spots’ will be screened every five minutes.

Art in Transit launched with ‘Hard Twist: Greatest Hits,’ showcasing works by Canadian artists Keiley Stewart and Andrea Vander Kooiji (example pictured), which ran until January 27. These were followed by ‘Daily Random Word Doodles,’ a series of Twitter-inspired illustrations by Australian artist Charles Santoso (Chao), which were featured on the screens from February 1 to March 1, then on Toronto’s subway screens from March 2 to 31.

From March 25 to April 7, the mall screens showcased the best silent one-minute shorts from the Toronto Urban Film Festival (TUFF), which runs each year on the subway screens.
