  • During the InfoComm conference, Planar Systems’ Mosaic digital display system (examples pictured) won both Commercial Integrator’s Best Electronic Systems Technologies (BEST) Award and AV Technology’s Best New Video Wall Product Award.
  • Spartanics, which manufactures laser cutters, die-cutting machinery, screenprinting systems and other flat-stock fabrication equipment for the sign industry, is celebrating its 50th anniversary.
  • Electronics manufacturer Sharp, which provides liquid crystal displays (LCDs) for the digital signage sector, is marking its 100th anniversary. Established as a metalworking shop in 1912 and mass-producing TVs by 1953, the company got its current name in 1970 from the Ever-Ready Sharp Pencil, one of its most successful products at the time.
  • Bordeaux Digital Printink’s ultraviolet-curable (UV-curable) ink has won the endorsement of Bilcare Research Group, which manufactures rigid polyvinyl chloride (PVC) films for digital printing.
  • The Digital Signage Expo (DSE) has been named for the third time to Trade Show Executive’s Fastest 50 list, which recognizes the fastest-growing trade shows across North America based on square footage of exhibit space and numbers of exhibitors and attendees.
  • Electronics for Imaging (EFI) has installed its 500th Vutek GS-series roll-to-roll ultraviolet-curing (UV-curing) inkjet printer. The GS5000r is being used by Gigantic Color in Dallas, Texas.
  • American Biltrite, which manufactures application tapes for the sign industry, has been certified by the Pressure Sensitive Tape Council (PSTC), a trade association, as a Responsible Tape Manufacturer (RTM).
  • Vancouver-based Horseshoe Press has been honoured as the 200th member of Agfa Graphics’ GreenWorks program, which recognizes companies in the graphic arts industry for environmentally responsible practices, technologies and products.
  • HP’s durable aqueous ‘latex’ inks for wide-format printing and A50 web press inks have become the first water-based inkjet inks to achieve sustainable product certification by Underwriters Laboratories’ (UL’s) Environment business unit. UL 2801, Environmental Standard for Printing Inks, was originally created for offset, letterpress, flexographic and gravure printing inks, but now also includes criteria to certify water-based inkjet inks, screenprinting inks and ultraviolet-curable (UV-curable) inks.
