After receiving approval from council, the village of Nakusp, B.C., is now exploring funding options for its new Signage and Wayfinding Plan.
A collaboration between the village and local contractor Dan Trobak of Interpret Design, the comprehensive strategy details various types of signage the group believes will benefit both residents and visitors, as well as complement the character of Nakusp and the surrounding area. It is the result of several levels of public input, including meeting with community leaders, conducting a survey, and holding a feedback session for direction on the design options.
The goal of the plan is to inventory existing signage and propose updates, replacement, or removal; determine appropriate decision points and sign locations throughout the community; and direct people using various modes of transportation to services and amenities, recreational sites, businesses, and cultural and historical places.
According to the plan, the signs range from gateway arches to pedestrian maps, and the estimated cost for fabrication is around $80,000.
