B.C. mural artist evokes cultural traditions in holiday shipping box design

Vancouver’s Carolyn Wong is one of the emerging Canadian artists whose designs will be featured on Purolator’s annual holiday boxes.

A Chinese Canadian illustrator and mural artist, Wong has a passion for storytelling and creates vibrant images to represent various communities. The selected artwork spotlights the diverse ways families and communities eat, drink, and celebrate the season together.

“This design celebrates holiday traditions and food, and represents B.C., while referencing symbols from Chinese diaspora culture in a contemporary style,” says Wong. “Design elements include holiday themes such as winter, snow, gift wrapping, and ornamental decorations, combined with Chinese cultural elements such as Mahjong symbols and colours, dumplings on a porcelain plate, and chopsticks.”

The annual holiday box campaign aims to celebrate up-and-coming artists from across the country. This year’s artists were nominated by winners from the previous year.

To date, Wong is the third artist from British Columbia to be featured on one of Purolator’s holiday boxes.
