[1]At the 2012 IIDEX interior design and architecture show at Toronto’s Direct Energy Centre, sponsor HP Canada worked with designer Christina Zeidler to turn an 18-wheeler transport truck into a mobile showcase for printed applications using durable aqueous ‘latex’ inks.
The ‘Special Delivery’ art installation featured more than 20 vinyl and fabric applications, ranging from wallcoverings to tents, as Zeidler created a series of distinct spaces within the truck. The installation was the result of a partnership with Beyond Digital Imaging, which prints large-format graphics in Markham, Ont., and media suppliers 3M Canada and Neschen Americas.
“This was a wonderful experience from a design perspective, as I really felt my options were endless,” says Zeidler, president and designer of Toronto’s Gladstone Hotel. “It’s a rare opportunity to realize all of the elements you’d like to incorporate are possible! The result would have anyone who sees it rethink their opinion about what a big rig—or any room, for that matter—can be.”
After the show ended on September 21, 2012, the truck toured the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) throughout the fall.
“Our goal is to inspire industrial designers by showing them how to identify new applications and revenue opportunities,” says Kevin McKay, national marketing manager for HP Canada.
