Calgary’s latest addition to its art scene, the “Pride in Bloom” mural, has been unveiled on the North wall of Arlington House at 1411 7 ST SW. Created by local trans artist Kat Simmers, this mural represents a powerful statement of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community’s resilience and presence in Calgary, Alta.

Inspired by personal experiences and reflections shared in 2022, Simmers’ mural features native Albertan wildflowers in the colours of the Pride Progress flag. The artwork addresses divisive rhetoric and celebrates growth and belonging within the queer community.

The project was made possible through collaborations between BUMP Festival, Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP (Blakes), and Calgary Queer Arts Society, with additional support from Benjamin Moore West Hillhurst.

An event to celebrate the mural’s completion is forthcoming.
