A variety of Canadian digital signage projects—particularly those from Montreal-based Arsenal Media—were among the winners of the 2013 Apex and Content Awards, which were announced at a special banquet on February 27 during the 10th annual Digital Signage Expo (DSE) in Las Vegas, Nev.
Sponsored by the Digital Signage Federation (DSF), the independently judged awards were presented at gold, silver and bronze levels to winners in 10 different categories.
The Apex Awards honour innovation in the development and deployment of technology for digital out-of-home (DOOH) applications. This year’s winners included:
- Westbury National Show Systems’ video wall for the University of Waterloo’s new campus in Stratford, Ont. (gold winner for education and health care).
- Christie Digital Systems Canada’s West Wing in Kitchener, Ont. (silver winner for business, industry and government).
- Arsenal’s ‘Fountain of Content’ (bronze winner in business, industry and government).
- Arsenal’s digital signage for Quebec’s Tourisme Montérégie (silver winner for hospitality).
- Rose and Thistle Media’s texture mapping and ‘virtual mannequins’ (pictured) for Holt Renfrew’s 175th anniversary in Toronto (bronze winner for retail).
The Content Awards complement the Apex Awards by specifically honouring originality in digital signage content, rather than overall projects, in most of the same categories. As such, there can be some crossover between the two programs.
This years Content Award winners included:
- Arsenal’s Fountain of Content (gold for business, industry and government).
- Arsenal’s content for Christie’s West Wing (bronze for business, industry and government).
- Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment’s (MLSE’s) for the Air Canada Centre’s (ACC’s) MLSE Live content in Toronto (silver for event venues).
- Arsenal’s content for the 100th anniversary of Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ont. (silver for education and health care).
- Arsenal’s ‘experiential tower’ content for Tourisme Montérégie (gold for hospitality).
- Montreal-based X2O Media’s content at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Tulsa in Catoosa, Okla. (silver for hospitality).
- Arsenal’s content for Christie’s Discovery Wall (bronze for arts, entertainment and recreation).
