Canadian Tire has introduced automated pick-up towers at five stores across the country.

Canadian Tire has unveiled new e-commerce technology designed to streamline in-store pick-ups for online shopping.

The retailer introduced automated 4.9-m (16-ft) self-serve pick-up towers at five locations across the country, including stores in Vancouver, B.C., Calgary, Alta., Saskatoon, Sask., and Toronto. These ‘click-and-collect’ stations aim to improve convenience for the company’s e-tail business.

Additionally, Canadian Tire plans to introduce two new ways to pick-up online purchases at one of its Ottawa locations. The retailer is rolling out a fleet of self-serve lockers, as well as automated check-in terminals. For the latter, customers are able to enter a unique code on an in-store tablet, prompting a staff member to bring the order to them directly.

“We’re a ‘test-and-learn’ culture and a big part of that is finding new ways to help our customers shop when and how they want,” said company president Greg Hicks. “We’re very excited to introduce the self-serve pick-up towers in some of our busiest stores as one more example of how we’re meeting our customers’ evolving needs.”
