Several Canadian companies were among the independently judged winners of the Digital Signage Expo’s (DSE’s) 12th annual Apex Awards, as announced on March 16, 2016, in Las Vegas, Nev.
The Apex Awards ceremony was held at the Las Vegas Convention Center, the same facility as the 2016 DSE’s trade show and educational conference. Gold, silver and bronze awards were presented to winners in nine categories, from a field of 155 entrants.
Toronto-based Westbury National Show Systems won gold in the arts, entertainment and recreation category for its digital projections on the Oakes Hotel for the Winter Festival of Lights in Niagara Falls, Ont. (pictured left), along with bronze in the event venues and hospitality category for an array of screens and projections at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colo.
Cineplex Digital Solutions (CDS), based in Waterloo, Ont., also won two awards: gold in the business and government services category for a video wall in Toronto’s Scotia Plaza; and silver in the food and beverage category for an interactive ‘digital hoarding’ (pictured below, left) at the food court in Cadillac Fairview (CF) Markville Mall in Markham, Ont.
Three other Canadian companies won one award each. Omnivex, a software developer based in Concord, Ont., was honoured alongside U.S.-based Radiant Technology with silver in business and government services for a towering, touch-sensitive digital signage ‘pillar’ (pictured below, right) installed at the Cardinal Health Experience Center in Dublin, Ohio. Montreal-based Stingray Business won bronze in the food and beverage category with a custom-shaped video wall for Restaurant Fogo Euro-Lounge in Boisbriand, Que. And finally, national retailer FGL Sports’ digital signage-heavy Sport Chek store in Toronto’s Maple Leaf Square won bronze in the retail category.
