Cineplex Digital Solutions (CDS) is rolling out ‘digital hoardings,’ which add interactive screens to vacant spaces in shopping centres, starting with Cadillac Fairview’s (CF’s) Markville Mall in Markham, Ont.
Designed as ‘plug-and-play’ digital signage, to be installed at empty storefronts without disturbing on-site construction, the systems feature 2.5-m (98-in.) touch- and gesture-enabled screens for customized content. In Markville Mall, by way of example, a digital hoarding offers activities, games and entertainment to increase customers’ dwell time at the Express Eatery food court.
“This is about deriving value from a space in a retail environment that used to be off-limits to shoppers,” says Fab Stanghieri, general manager (GM) for Cineplex Digital Media (CDM). “Digital interactive experiences are growing in popularity with shopping centres because they’re affordable, customizable and reusable and the data shows visitors love them.”
