Montreal-based interactive technology agency iGotcha Media recently developed an augmented reality (AR) game for Cirque Du Soleil, allowing the public to interact with a video wall as characters from its newest show, Luzia.
Presented both in Montreal’s Complexe Desjardins shopping mall and on-site in the Luzia tent, the immersive 60-second experience used a Microsoft Kinect motion sensor, a camera and real-time tracking technology to ‘mirror’ passersby on an LG video wall with their heads replaced by those of three creatures: a hummingbird, a swordfish and an alligator.
“The challenge was achieving a green screen effect with no actual green screen behind the person,” explained Greg Adelstein, president of iGotcha, while demonstrating the game earlier this month at the Dx3 technology, digital marketing and retail conference in Toronto.
