Wide-format printer/cutter vendor Roland DGA has extended the final deadline for its Creative Awards international design contest to January 29, 2012, giving signmakers more time to showcase their work and compete for prizes. The contest, the first of its kind, was launched on September 21, 2011, to help mark Roland’s 30th anniversary. Since then, the company has received more than 570 entries from around the world, some of which have won monthly people’s choice awards. “This contest has truly been a highlight for us,” says Rick Scrimger, vice-president (VP) and general manager (GM). “We are getting such a wide variety of entries, from wall murals to vehicle wraps, and each entry is so imaginative.” Entries from Canada and 122 other countries—grouped into 14 regions—are being judged on the basis of creativity, innovation and execution. The regional winners will receive an all-expenses-paid trip in April 2012 to Roland’s global headquarters in Hamamatsu, Japan, to compete for the grand prize, which the top entrant will choose from among a printer/cutter, a milling machine, a gift engraver or a jewellery model maker. There will also be honourable mention prizes in each region. Full details are available at www.rolandcreativeawards.com.
