David Wilkins, president and CEO of Montreal-based digital signage software developer X2O Media, recently spoke at the Payment Landscape conference at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nev., about ‘cross-channel’ technologies.

Along with implementing new in-store electronic payment systems, some of today’s retailers are engaging their customers through video walls, interactive digital signage, near-field communications (NFC), tablet computers and smart phones. In his presentation, ‘Innovation in Cross-Channel Technology Beyond Payment,’ Wilkins (pictured) addressed opportunities to use these systems together.

An ‘e-coupon’ can be transferred to a mobile device, for example, when it is placed near a digital sign with NFC capabilities. The customer experience can be further enhanced with interactive screens that allow shoppers to contact a live, remote expert and even video-chat with them through the displays.

Payment Landscape focuses on topics like mobile payments, the Europay, Mastercard and Visa (EMV) interoperability standard for integrated-circuit (IC) ‘chip’ cards, security, alternative payments and loyalty point programs for retailers.
