Vancouver-based Powerwave Mobile Engagement, founded in 2010, has begun deploying a network of mobile phone-charging kiosks with built-in liquid crystal displays (LCDs) for digital signage purposes.

While consumers wait to charge their smart phones and other mobile devices at one of the kiosks, a digital screen showcases branded interactive content. Related marketing messages are also delivered directly to their phones via wireless-fidelity (Wi-Fi) and Bluetooth connections.

“The kiosks will be located in high-traffic transportation hubs, restaurants, bars and sports and entertainment facilities,” says Bill Brooks, CEO of Powerwave. “Busy customers are using their smart phones constantly and are often faced with a dwindling power supply. When they are on the go, our kiosks give them somewhere to power up their phone extremely quickly and safely. While they wait five to 10 minutes to add some juice to their phones, we will connect them to an assortment of brands and mobile messages.”
