Toronto-based Kramer Design Associates (KDA) has designed an integrated branding, wayfinding and signage program for Edmonton’s Ice District, which will reportedly be Canada’s largest mixed-use sports and entertainment development.
Anchored by Rogers Place—an indoor arena that will become the new home to the National Hockey League’s (NHL’s) Edmonton Oilers—and a public plaza, the $2-billion Ice District will also feature a hotel, two office towers, a casino, a movie theatre complex, restaurants, a child-care centre, condominiums, apartments and retail stores.
“The district’s brand mark has been designed to embrace Edmonton’s status as a winter city,” says Jeremy Kramer, principal and creative director of KDA. “To Edmontonians, the word ‘ice’ sums up their strength of character and sense of pride. It represents what’s great and distinct about their city.”
