New signs and interpretation panels have been introduced for the trails of Entry Island, Que., as part of an effort to reduce the environmental impact of thousands of tourists, in addition to improving wayfinding.
The Future Committee, which carries out tourism development projects for the island, created the signage system and related brochures with the support of the Fondation Hydro-Québec pour l’Environnement. These new tools are intended to help direct visitors and provide information about the island’s history and natural attractions, including plants and wildlife.
“Entry Island is important for many species of seabirds,” says Marie-Anne Sauvé, the foundation’s executive director. “The committee’s goal was to make it possible for the approximately 8,000 visitors who come every year to admire the view from the top of Big Hill while preserving the rich ecology.”
