Toronto-based Eventscape recently custom-engineered, fabricated and installed two ‘tower’ structures for a pair of tall, narrow video walls in JetBlue Airways’ renovated headquarters in Long Island City, N.Y.
Extending three storeys high through open staircases at both ends of the building, each tower was constructed using steel, curved aluminum and blue acrylic and supports 14 liquid crystal displays (LCDs), along with backlighting and inset changeable light-emitting diodes (LEDs). Built like a truss with exposed fasteners, the structures are intended to resemble airplane wings.
The back of each tower was finished with rolled and computer numerical control (CNC) cut aluminum panels, powdercoated for a glossy white appearance. For the front-facing side, the blue acrylic sheets were cut flat, then curved along the support rail of a waterjet-cut steel frame.
More information about the JetBlue project and other video walls will appear in the July 2012 issue of Sign Media Canada.
