Signalex, based in Mississauga, Ont., has fabricated aluminum extrusion systems for a new series of Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) advertising signage units, after developing prototypes based on design concepts by Kramer Design Associates (KDA).

The extrusion systems (examples pictured) are engineered by Al Sandid and Active Designers, who have also recently developed bus sign systems for Mississauga Transit. The TTC ad units are less than 51 mm (2 in.) deep and will be illuminated by light-emitting diode (LED) panels fabricated in-house and approved by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA).

The units will house and display posters on Toronto subway station platforms as part of a new out-of-home (OOH) advertising program managed by Pattison Outdoor, whose 12-year TTC contract came into effect in January. Transit ads reach an estimated 1.5 million commuters daily throughout the city.
