leyardThe worldwide fine-pixel-pitch light-emitting diode (LED) display market is expected to grow from $677 million U.S. in 2015 to $3.1 billion U.S. by 2024, according to a new report from Transparency Market Research.

This pace of growth will represent a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 15.8 per cent from 2014 to 2024. Transparency says the market will be dominated by companies like Leyard (example pictured), NEC Display Solutions, Christie, Daktronics, Unilumin and SiliconCore, which are all well-established brand names in the industry.

Digital signage, visualization and simulation applications for fine-pixel-pitch LED displays were strong in 2015, but control rooms and monitoring applications are anticipated to see especially high growth during the forecast period. The increased adoption of video walls in stores, restaurants, stadiums and other venues has also had a considerable impact on the market.

While fine-pixel-pitch displays tend to cost at least three times more than other technologies, including liquid crystal displays (LCDs) and Digital Light Processing (DLP) projection, Transparency predicts continuing research and development (R&D) and growing competition will bring prices down in the coming years. In the meantime, growth is driven by the technology’s scalability, energy efficiency and image resolution.

The leading region for fine-pixel-pitch LED displays is Asia-Pacific (APAC), which accounted for 59 per cent of the market in 2015. Transparency expects the Middle East and Africa (MEA) to see some of the fastest growth, with a CAGR of 28.9 per cent, nearly double the global average.
