Display hardware manufacturer Barco’s OBLX free-standing, tiled liquid crystal display (LCD) video wall system has been honoured in the 2014 Red Dot product design competition with a ‘best of the best’ designation.

Out of 4,815 entries, a 40-member Red Dot jury has lauded the OBLX (pictured) for high quality and groundbreaking design. Barco will accept the award in July at a gala ceremony in Essen, Germany.

The 1.4-m (55-in.) display system was designed for use in environments where wall-mounted support is not feasible. It supports 2 x 2 landscape and 3 x 1 portrait modes and can be expanded modularly with no horizontal limits.

“The possibility of placing a tiled LCD wall in any location will open up a range of new markets,” says Lutz Nehrhoff von Holderberg, Barco’s general manager (GM) of large video walls. “Meeting rooms, lobbies, museums and retail stores will be able to benefit from video walls without the need for any wall support.”
