Giant photo printed for Belgian beach

Project TIME: a 3000 m2 picture to tell a global story by Wim Tellier. On the beach at Knokke-Heist Belgium, Wim Tellier integrated a 3,000 m² circular image. It is a picture with double imaging, with its main subject a vulnerable crab magnified at least 1,000 times its original size. The background consists of fish-eye photos of unique landscapes for which Wim Tellier travelled the globe. These images are designed to give spectators an open view of the world. The graphic and logistical aspect of the project is pioneering and revolutionary. The photo file exceeds 400 gigabytes! The 3000m2 photo weighs 1,800 kg. www.wimtellier.be (PRNewsFoto/Wim Tellier)Canon recently printed a large-scale photo file by artist Wim Tellier for installation at a beach in Knokke-Heist, Belgium, depicting a crab atop a background of fish-eye landscape shots from around the world.

Tellier is known for gigantic art installations that integrate photos into the natural environment. At 3,000 m2 (32,292 sf), the circular crab image—titled ‘Time’—is his largest to date, requiring a digital file exceeding 400 GB. Canon printed this file on 56 panels that were later welded together.

The installation was in place for two weeks, with a set of five 4-m (13-ft) tall cubes allowing the public to walk over and view it. Afterwards, it was cut into 12 wedges, which will eventually be displayed at 12 different locations around the world.
